Some Alternatives to the Soon to be Deprecated YouTube Editor

Recently, Google announced it will be deprecating one of its best kept secrets known as the YouTube Editor.  This was one of my favorite tools for editing video in the cloud, especially since it also worked well on a Chromebook. Sadly, any projects not completed by September 20, 2017, will disappear when the application is removed from service.  The full announcement regarding the changes can be found at: https://goo.gl/LDx2tE

Caveat Emptor – Be on-guard against phishing

While our highest purpose and goal as schools to support students with learning in order to prepare them to follow their passions and be ready for successful futures, keeping students safe is also core to the mission of schools. Today, part of this is ensuring that student data is also safe and secure. The number one threat to student data today in Maine Township High School District 207 is via social engineering, typically through phishing attacks in which users are tricked into giving up their username and password for their account.

Google Drive Template Gallery goes end-of-life

On February 15, 2017, the old Google Drive Template Gallery will be shut down by Google. Like most elements of G Suite (formerly known as Google Apps for Education), Maine 207 has used the Google Drive Template Gallery fairly extensively over many years. While Google is ending this collection location for organization-wide templates, Google has replaced it with specific Template Galleries for each of the major “apps” within G Suite – Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Forms. Opening Office files stored in Google Drive

Maine Township High School District 207 was Google’s first-ever K-12 partner for Google Apps for Education (now G Suite), and over nearly a decade, Maine 207 staff members have seen dramatic changes in what can be done and accomplished in G Suite. Today, nearly all staff members can do nearly all of their work in G Suite–and it can be done with powerful collaboration from any Chromebook or up-to-date Internet-connected device. Telephone features accessible on the web

Certain features of the Maine 207 ShoreTel phones are accessible via the web at voicemail.maine207.org/login. In this portal, users can listen to and manage voicemails, update preferences, and change the greeting type based on meeting status. Of course, all of the functionality that currently exists directly in the phones is still available. The web portal simply provides an additional option.

Accessing FMX for Maintenance Requests

Maine Township High School District 207 is shifting from Eduphoria to FMX, another online tool, for the submission and tracking of maintenance requests. FMX is a specialized tool for such services and will create new efficiencies for our maintenance staff as well as providing better reporting. Follow these steps to login to FMX and submit your requests, as necessary.
